About

Ed McCarthy is a writer, storyteller, and producer whose work has been screened in film festivals spanning twenty countries. Ed's award-winning short, They Fall Fast, is now available on the second season of Amazon Prime's "Discover Indie Film" series.

He’s been a finalist in Film Independent’s Episodic Lab and in the Producers Guild of America’s “Make Your Mark” film competition, and most recently he advanced to the second round of the WB Writers' Workshop. In addition, Ed's pilots have reached the semis in the Cinequest Screenplay Competition and the ScreenCraft Pilot Launch competition; and he was a second rounder (top 15%) three times over in the Austin Film Festival (AMC One-Hour Pilot competition, One-Hour Spec, and Short Screenplay).

An accomplished storyteller, Ed has appeared on various stages throughout Los Angeles. He’s won The Moth and has been featured on its weekly The Moth Radio Hour. 

Ed has extensive experience developing and producing content. He ran development on film and television incubators in partnership with Josh Hutcherson, Lesli Linka Glatter, Sarah Treem, Betty Thomas, Kasi Lemmons, The Black List, and Condé Nast. He has also created or developed branded content for Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft Surface, and Dove (amongst others). 

Recently, he was the line producer for the indie pilot “Work/Friends” (directed by Rodrigo Garcia and written by Karen Graci) and was the writers’ assistant for the first season of the USA Network / Netflix drama “Dare Me.” Currently, Ed's the writers' assistant for the upcoming Amazon Prime drama "Paper Girls."

A former English teacher and administrator at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the school that inspired the film and TV series “Fame”), Ed earned his MFA in Creative Writing at American University.
